Today I’m really excited to announce my new Coaching and Mentoring Service for self-publishing authors. I’ve been working on this for a while now, and finally it’s here! Read on to find out more about how it’s going to work and how you might be able to benefit …

The History

So, for the past two years I’ve been gaining experience in self-publishing, pretty much doing it all myself and outsourcing important specialist tasks to a team of fantastic professionals. Along the way, I’ve been approached by quite a few fellow authors, asking for advice or a bit of hand-holding while they publish their own books. The funny thing is, most of the information these authors have asked for is already on the blog in one form or another – I’ve been logging my journey every step of the way, as you know, and I’ve included lots of detailed information about costs and sales figures, How-to guides and all my own processes and timetables. But one important thing I realised is this: Everyone comes to self-publishing with a different set of skills and needs. I’m pretty good at searching out the information I need and absorbing it quickly, and I’m also good at explaining this stuff to other people.  But not everyone wants to spend time seeking and digesting information – some of you want to get straight down to it, to have a guide or a coach who can tell you exactly what to do and exactly when to do it.

That’s where I come in. I’ll be offering authors a tailored service on a one-to-one basis. Whether they are new to self-publishing, or have done it all before and want to be more hands-on, I’ll be here to take them through the process step by step. Questions?

How will it work?

For my new coaching service, I’ll be helping authors in a completely tailored and individual way. Through one-to-one sessions, by email, phone or Skype – or a combination of all three – the author’s needs will be identified and I’ll produce a tailored plan to follow. This level of coaching will be charged on a fixed-fee basis, with follow up sessions if necessary.

The next level up offers the kind of hand-holding a lot of first-time self publishers need. Again, using email, phone or Skype sessions, I’ll follow on from the initial plan, walking the author through the process step-by-step. This will be charged on a session-by-session basis, and will provide a completely stress-free solution to getting your book up for sale as soon as possible.

Are you going to be fussy?

You bet I am! I’m looking to work with authors who have produced a great book, and are genuinely committed to seeing the project through to the end. Although I’ll be paid for my time (after doing it for free for quite a while now in an unofficial capacity), I’ll still be 100% committed to anyone I choose to work with, and it just wouldn’t be satisfying for me to get involved with anyone who’s not offering the same level of commitment back.

Is this a self-publishing solutions service, then?

No, it isn’t. Self-publishing solutions companies generally provide editing, typesetting, printing etc, and will publish your book for you, paying you royalties or their equivalent via their own accounts. This will be a coaching and mentoring service, enabling authors to self-publish – in the truest meaning of the phrase. Authors who work with me will be in control of everything – their sales figures, royalty payments, costs of editing, cover design, and proofreading etc. Authors who work with me will own and upload their own files, and have complete autonomy over every detail. They just won’t have the stress of not knowing what it is they’re doing 😉

Of course, I have to point out – and will be pointing out to every client who comes my way – that all the information they need is probably on the blog already, or is out there on the Internet somewhere if they care to search. And I’ll continue to post about self-publishing, building up the resource for free. I’ve always been committed to sharing my experiences right here, and this ethos won’t change.

Do you know anyone who might benefit from a little coaching or mentoring? Send them my way – I’ll only be mentoring two clients at any one time and I’m currently taking bookings to start in June. Click on the Coaching and Mentoring tab to find out more.
